Federal Competition

FiSH – 10-13, May 2012, Rostock

The national short-film competition JUNGER FILM is the broadest and central program of FiSH. Films with duration not more than 30 minutes made by directors not older than 27 years old will be shown at the festival. Last year more than 400 directors applied with their short films. Annually, only 30-40 films are selected for presentation at the festival.

A communicative atmosphere between directors, qualified jury and audience creates the special charm of the JUNGER FILM. This makes FiSH a “school of film discussion” including stage interviews with directors after each film presentation, as well as highlight public jury debates at the end of each set of films.

The jury changes from year to year. It consists of five film professionals, including well-known directors, such as Andreas Dresen (“Halt auf freier Strecke”) and Sven Taddicken (“Emmas Glück”), and actors, such as Susanne Bormann (Rubbeldiekatz) and Charly Hübner (“Das Leben der Anderen”). They also award the prize Film of the Year. In addition, the viewers vote on the Audience Prize.

The most promising films will be delegated for Deutsche Filmfestspiele and nominated for Deutsche Nachwuchsfilmpreis” at the international partner-festival Up-and-Coming.
